Anterior Displacement of the Right Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)

ID: exh60940b
This stock medical exhibit begins with a lateral view of a skull demonstrating normal anatomy. This image provides an overall orientation to the location of the right TMJ. A box is drawn around the TMJ region to correspond with the enlarged view of this region. Next there is a lateral view of the skull showing a more severe displacement of the TMJ. Again, a box is drawn around the TMJ region to correspond with the enlarged view of this region. The enlarged image shows the meniscus fully dislocated out of the joint space and bunched up 'accordion style' showing bone to bone contact between the mandible and temporal bones.
