Avascular Necrosis of the Talus with Ankle Fusion Procedure

ID: exh4917b
This stock medical exhibit uses five images to illustrate avascular necrosis of the talus with a subsequent ankle fusion procedure. The first image (upper left) is a medial view of the right foot with necrosis of the body of the talus. The next image shows the incision made to access the surgical area. The third graphic depicts the removal of old screws and the necrotic portion of the talus. Next, the creation of a sliding graft in the anterior tibia is shown along with the making of a trough in the talus to accept the graft. The final image shows the graft screwed into place and a cancellous bone graft from the tibia placed into the joint for fusion.
