The first two drawings display the location and extent of the knee injury with labels for the shattered, comminuted patellar fracture with displacement of the patellar fragments. The subsequent graphics show the following surgical steps: 1. Incision of the knee; 2. Placement of k-wires; and 3. Final fixation of the patellar fragments using a figure of eight wire.
