Left Parotid Mass with Surgical Exposure

ID: exh62040
This exhibit begins with the pre-operative condition, showing a portray picture of a girl's face with a normal appearance and an illustration that depicts a parotid mass underneath the parotid gland. In this illustration you can also appreciate the anatomical relationship among important structures in this area where the surgical procedure takes place such as: the mass, the parotid gland and the facial nerve. This is followed by pertinent steps of the surgical procedure to extract the parotid mass where in step D the facial nerve is accidentally transected. Then a post-operative portray picture is shown demonstrating the double-stating effects of transecting the facial nerve resulting in paralysis of the left side of the mouth and left eyelids.
