Lumbar Spinal Fusion Procedure

ID: exh78284b
This fusion consist of two separate surgical procedures where an anterior approach is made first to remove the discs and place prostheses filled with bone graft within the vertebral interspace. Unique to this procedure is the type of prostheses used which comes with a built-in plate through which you can introduce screws and achieve a rigid fixation to the vertebral bodies. Through a posterior approach the vertebral segments are further stabilized by placing screws into the pedicles of the vertebrae bilaterally and connecting these screws with a rod at each side and tighten this with cap screws. See exh78284d for a lateral view of post-operative condition.
