Lumbar Spine Injuries with Surgical Fusion

ID: exh81953d
The injuries of the lumbar spine consist of disc herniations at L3-4 and L4-5. A right sided skin incision is made to expose these levels through the retroperitoneal space. Marrow blood is harvested from L4. The disc material is removed from both levels. PEEK implants packed with Vitoss mixed with marrow blood are inserted into the L3-4 and L4-5 vertebral interspaces. This are secured in place with a screw and washer at each level. A posterior approach to L3-4 and L4-5 is made to fuse the posterior elements. The bone is decorticated, pedicle screws and rods are placed bilaterally and the bone graft placed over the decorticated bone to create bone fusion.
