Mechanism of Injury to Vessel

ID: exh69091c
This stock medical exhibit depicts clot formation due to an incorrectly inserted needle. It features multiple cross sections of the radial artery within the wrist. The first shows a partially inserted needle in the wall of the artery. The second shows the needle inserting fluid into the arterial wall, causing detachment of the intima. The third and fourth describe the formation of the clot at this site. The final image is a hand with the arteries visible beneath the skin, allowing us to see where the clot has broken apart and lodged in other places cutting off blood flow to the hand.
