This exhibit depicts a pre-operative condition presenting carcinoma of the sigmoid, a loop of ileum adhered to the sigmoid and a pre-existing diverting colostomy. Also illustrated, is the surgical procedure for the resection of the entire sigmoid colon segment together with the adhered small ileum loop and some surrounding mesenteric fat. An end to end anastomosis of the colon and side to side anastomosis of the ileum is also shown.
