This is a single custom board exhibit of a left arm amputation procedure over two separate surgeries.rnrnThe top half of the board depicts the pre-operative condition of the left arm fully detached from the mid-humerus to the hand and the debridement of nonviable tissue, the shaving down of the broken end of the bone with a saw, and the placement of a would VAC and sponge for drainage in an incomplete closure.rnrnThe bottom half of the board illustrates the subsequent surgery for complete closure. The steps shown here include the suturing of the triceps musculature to the anterior fascia to protect the ends of the neurovascular bundle and remaining humerus, and the placing of a drain and suturing closed of the skin to create the stump.
