Surgical Splenectomy Procedure

Spleen Removal (Splenectomy). This exhibit illustrates the splenecomy procedure in which the spleen is removed. The first image shows the midline incision in the abdomen through wich the damaged spleen is exposed. The second image depicts the mobilization of the lacerated spleen and ligation (binding) of the the splenic vessels which will be clipped. An enlargement of the removed spleen is pictured off to the side to highlight the specific injuries.
