Left Wrist Fractures with Surgical Fixation

ID: exh42994
This stock medical exhibit depicts left wrist fractures with surgical fixation in a series of illustrations. The first illustration shows the pre-operative condition, including a comminuted fracture of the left distal radius with extension into the radiocarpal joint and a fracture of the left ulnar styloid. The second illustration shows the first step of the procedure, in which the index finger is incised and two pins are placed into the second metacarpal bone. The third illustration shows the making of an incision above the wrist and the insertion of two more pins into the radius. The fourth illustration shows the post-operative condition, in which an external fixation device has been applied to the pins and the wounds have been closed.
