Thrombolytic Therapy

This stock medical exhibit features five enlarged cut-away views of a section of a generic artery with the anterior wall of these vessel segments cut away. The first illustration depicts normal anatomy showing unobstructed blood flow through the artery. The second illustration portrays pre-therapy thrombus with a large clot causing a complete blockage of blood flow through the artery. The third illustration shows the introduction of thrombolytic medication with small brightly colored dots shown flowing in with the blood to attack the surface of the clot. The fourth illustration pictures continued therapy with the remaining portions of the clot shown breaking down and dissolving into the thrombolytic filled blood. The sixth image illustrates completion of therapy with a return to normal anatomy showing the clot dissolved away and normal blood flow restored.
