This medical exhibit begins with a cut away lateral view of the cervical spine revealing the disc herniation at C5/6. The torn posterior longitudinal ligament and bone fragments and spinal cord compression results from this impact related injury. The key steps in the surgical procedure are illustrated including the initial horizontal incision, the discectomy, the removal of the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) and bone fragments, insertion of cornerstone grafts, and fixation hardware. The post-operative film will be included as well.
